When I shut it down it alway's says that it needs to wait for the program '' Device 10 notification window '' is still running what is this and why the heck is it running? I've ran all kinds of paid for antivirus software programs from Mc affee , Cogeco security services to xoft spy and they all say my pc is fine. Whats going on? any suggestions would be greatly welcomed!

My question is what would cause the following to happen? My screen freezes whether I am in the middle of something or not, then a blue screen comes up for about 3 seconds and then my pc restarts. Whenever I connect to internet, the computer starts downloading (or uploading) something automatically. I tried to find what it may be but could not find. if its a flash add on, try uninstalling it and then if it still does then u can reinstall it, if it doesnt then u know where thy cause was. that is called proper error debugging, eliminate some options so we know how to answer better. if not that though, sounds like a virus of some sort, check the run registry setting so can c if any programs are turning on without u knowign that u dont want, or check start%26gt;programs%26gt;startup folder for programs that turn on when windows starts

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

Well when u restart your computer through windows, stuff usually doesn't always leave computer some times they may stay in ROM or RAM somehow, so when new information is loaded it needs to be first removed to add new info into cmp, so those icons take time to load. CPU Button or electric button cuts of power so nothing remains everything lost, immediately nothing remains, so things are loaded newly and more free space available also when windows restarts it saves settings for load on next time this time there were no last shuit down settings to be loaded neverthless the antivirus application is a application that needs alot of RAM and processor power thus slowing down, all those packet capturing programs, defending and such keeping your computer healthy are big apps so they always slow down comp! typically they start last so u have to wait for the but my avast starts first and then the rest.. my comp is fast so it dont take much time anyways and also it is the least cpu resource hungry antivir program available

Ran Norton Security Scan. IP Address scan failed. Details say IP addresses in Windows Host file have been redirected. Norton tech says its not their problem%26 for me to chk with Microsoft.. Nonsense above^^^^. A little knowledge IS a dangerous thing, especially when one has an ''axe to grind''.

Norton Security Scan is simply alerting you to the fact that something has altered your default Windows Hosts file. (A Hosts file can be used for malicious re-directs by malware).

However in your case , you are using Webroot SpySweeper. SpySweeper has an option for ''Common Ad Sites/Blocked Web Sites Shield''. I an assuming that you have this ''shield'' active. This shield is accomplished by adding advertising and malicious sites to your Hosts file and redirecting them to an IP address of 127.0.0.1 which effectively blocks them. (127.0.0.1 is your own computer!).

I am 99% sure that you do not have any kind of a malware infection in your Hosts file. It.s just your SpySweeper doing it's job for you. And Norton is doing it's.

is this a newer gaming pc? if so, it could be using an SLI video setup. if that's the case, it could be one of many problems, including one of the two video adapters going bad. other problems may include the connection between the video adapter and the screen.

In an SLI setup, there are two video adapters. One renders the top half of the screen, the second renders the bottom half.
also if it is that new you probally dont have much on it. so i would try to reinstall your windows cd and see if that clears it up. if it does then it probally was a virus. viruses now in days do wierd things now. make your sound go out or act up to whatever. especially if you were going on the internet with it without any protection on it. try to reinstall your windows and i mean reinstall not just fix it but actually reinstall it. and new to you it still might be old. you should also try to update your drivers too. if you can that is.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

Of course I pulled the plug immediately and did a malware scan. But it's scary stuff, very fast and aggressive.

It was in the guise of antivirus software.. nasty.

No, I have never experienced this personally, but have read about this and know others who have been infected. Yeah, it disguises itself as harmless application to ''help'' a User, but the one who is really being helped is the one wishing to infect systems.

I am surprised you found it on Yahoo! website though. One thing I have always admired about Yahoo! is the aggressive stance against malware of all forms. For example, my husband's email is through AT%26T, and it is a $5.00 monthly fee. Yet, it doesn't have any automatic scanning of attachment downloading. Yahoo on the other hand uses Norton to automatically scan any attachment downloaded via a Yahoo email account.

The newest form of malware is in the from of code which is injected on well used websites, and when an individual just browses to that infected webpage the code, well, it is difficult to explain, it sort of ''slides'' off the webpage and into a computer. Once it is in RAM it executes, installs itself on the infected systems hard drive and carries out its programmed mission. Usually, these missions these days is to open back doors for remote control of a system.

you should only have 1 anti- virus program. if you have more then 1 they run into conflicts with one another. keep avg and get rid of the other.

Apart from speed issues, since they conflict they will reduce security. 2 anti-virus reduces it by up to 60%.
if you want to uninstall one antivirus, remove avg free then. ive also had both of them in the computer at the same time and guess what, when i was removing trojans from my cousin's trojan infested computer, avg literally caught 1/100 trojans that avira found and caught...

AVG (along with Norton) is notorious for disabling the features of other antivirus programs installed on the computer (or displaying the program files of the other antivirus software as viruses, so it can delete them).

I can feel that my private and personal email account and the ISP connection is being hacked. Somehow, it seems like someone is reading my private emails and my facebook account. I have already tried to install a Norton Antivirus software. But it does not help.

And this situation persist. As a result, I don't dare to do any online banking, shopping or any other activities that require me to provide my ID numbers. I don't feel safe on the internet.

How can this problem be resolved? Do I need to change the ISP provider or to buy a computer? But it will cost a lot of money to discontinue the ISP service or to buy a new computer!!

I just tried it, and Trend Micro didn't block the site, and I didn't get any warnings. With the anti-virus software I have, it would definitely let me know if there were any problems...any. It was a mistake by Norton. Still, probably a good idea to update and run a scan before you hit the hay.

Have you got anti-spyware? This is most likely your problem. Also do not give them admin accounts to use, they download junk and infect the machine. I use AVG for ALL my clients machines, it never lets us down. Do NOT run 2 anti-virus at once, they conflict and reduce security by about 60%.

One nature of my work is to receive Word and Excel files thru email. And I am using my private computer since I am based at home.

All the folders in USB drive are hidden. But Files are visible. How to make folder visible?

Folder Options -%26gt; 'Show hidden files and folders' already checked. Both 'hide extn for known file types' and 'Hide protected Operating System Files(Recommended)' are unchecked. Only when they are unchecked, the folders are visible but are greyed out like hidden. When I right click and check attribute, readonly and archive are enabled but hidden attribute is checked and disabled. When new folder was created, it automatically changed to hidden. I have run antivirus software and removed 3 viruses. Now am able to create folder properly. It is not hidden but old folders hidden attribute is still disabled. This happens to folders in USB drive only. Please help.

I have WOT(Web of trust), which like site advisor warns you about dangerous sites. When I typed in that website, WOT warned me that this was a dangerous site!

The bottom line is.. you are posting on a public web board... the people on here are most likely not professional technicians and/or not professional information security professionals (like myself), etc.. and are many times providing biased advice that has no basis in reality and is oftentimes (as you have unfortunately found out) is malicious in nature.

The best possible solution for 99.9% of the people posting on this site is to invest in a proper security suite that includes complete protection (antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc) and nis from preferably one RELIABLE vendor (like McAfee or Norton) and is properly configured and kept completely up to date...

this coupled with current windows updates, safe browsing habits and above all... common sense. That's it.

You don't need a bunch of freeware junk or anyhting else... just one good suite that is properly maintained and some common sense.

Vista 64 and internet connectivity for some programs?

I have a laptop running Vista 64 home edition. I can access the internet with internet explorer but once I try using ITunes or other programs that use the internet they cannot access the internet. It seems only microsoft programs can access the internet. There seems to be selective access here.

I have added all of the programs to the allowed list, I have disabled the firewall and defender and the antivirus software all without success. I tried to work with a technician but it wouldn't let me give he remote access. PLEASE HELP. This dll file is ''windows\system32\dpserialo.dll.'' have tried a number of antivirus software ( McAfee and Adaware, AGV ) to get this off my computer. Well start defrag disc clean up go to run type prefetch and delete everything in the folder
What is the size of your Ram and how many process are you running, and see what is sarting up when you turn on the computer.

You can control what starts up by pressing the start button and go to run and type Msconfig press ok go to the start up (do not mess with the services tab) and you can chose what to start up and what you dont want to start.

Computer freezing after startup, now won't turn on at all, need advice.?

My computer started freezing after start up only sometimes. I ran antivirus software and adaware. Then it froze completely on the desktop, not even the cursor would move, then wouldn't turn on at all, but i could still hear the hum of the fans going. I took it to computer repair shop and they say i have a bad motherboard and cpu. They say they need to replace both at $300. Does this sound right or should i get someone else to look at it?

I have a hard time believing it's the motherboard. I think it's the registry and maybe outside cookies. This is what I would do. First, click on Control Panel, click on Network and Internet Connections, Click on Internet Options, click on the General tab (should already be there), click on Browsing History, click on Delete, click on Delete All. I don't know what computer you have, or what version of Windows you have - I'm guessing you are using Windows XP and have the install disk. You can get a huge new hard drive these days cheap. I saw a Hitachi 400 GB for $100 -

I would install a new hard drive, then install Windows on it and start over again. Also can get a hard drive enclosure for the old hard drive for about $25 - put your old hard drive in it. It will just plug into the USB. You will be able to retreive your old data from the old hard drive and then use it as a back-up hard drive. Make sure you reformat it to erase any viruses.

If that doesn't work, then you may need a new motherboard %26 CPU. I found this set-up at TigerDirect for $150.

Wait for the list to populate; once it does, you should see a program that wasn't there before - probably something that's a toolbar. Delete the program using the ''Remove'' button to the right. Then click on apply, and ok; you shouldn't be steer away from your chosen home page again.

If that is what you mean then i 've literally went thru e.v.e.r.y s.i.n.g.l.e. user review comments on download.com of the two software and chose Avira AntiVir over Avast AVG at the end based on better overall reviews by the users(*everytime i come across user reviews that compared the 2, Antivir was always the better one, though it was a close tie).

I 've used it for two years now. detected alot of virus while it runs in background, guarded from alot of potential virus threats while surfing online, auto-update function does all work itself, the support forum on their site is really prompt in replying questions(one of the fastest response service i've seen). Though only 1 time virus successfully creeped in unaware while using limewire and crashed windows.

I suggest you download a good LEGIT antivirus program such as NOD32, Kaspersky or Avira AntiVir PE and do a full scan. Also download multiple antispyware programs, such as SUPERAntiSpyware (which is very good at removing this type of stuff) or Spybot search and destroy.

I need help setting up tiscali wireless on a laptop?

Tomorrow I'm hopefully getting a laptop with wifi, and I'm not sure how I'd go about setting up a wireless connection.

Our desktop PC is on Tiscali broadband, with a standard modem etc. and our operating system is XP.

Also, I already know I have to get a wireless router, but does it need any specific specifications to work properly? And what is a ''network card'', will I need one of those even though my laptop will be wifi enabled?

Will my desktop PC have to be turned on to access the internet on the laptop? and will I have to install Norton or other antivirus software on the laptop too, to protect it?

If you have a laptop with built-in wireless, make sure that it's turned on. There is normally a switch to turn on wireless, look for a little light with an antenna symbol, it should be on. Then go to your network connections and click on view wireless connections. Your Laptop will have a NIC (Network) already

And if you get a wireless router and connect it to your PC, your laptop would be fine picking up the signal.

And your PC does not need to be on just as long as your router is connected to your Internet signal from your ISP

False Windows Security Alerts?

Everytime after I log in, Windows security alerts balloon pops up telling me ''no firewall is turned on'' and ''antivirus software might not be installed''.

But I've got the most up to date versions of NOD32 and Comodo Firewall Pro running and I've been using them for ages. Windows Security Centre just started not recognizing them since last night. I only installed Babylon 7 and can't think of any other changes I did.

I tried clearing out my cache, the scanning with Spybot, AVG Anti Spyware, and NOD32 - no threats found; rebooted for a few times, still the same outcome.

Any ideas?

I suspect updates are down to Kaspersky rather than AOL, as Active Virus Shield is a version of Kaspersky Antivirus. I think you nominally get a one year licence when you install so it could possibly stop after a year of use.

I got a free 30 day trial of Norton Anti Virus with a new laptop. I want to install free antivirus software, AVG, spybot and ad-aware, and remove the Norton stuff as it will be disconnected next week anyway.

ok Here's what you do: First download AVG and AD-Aware to your desktop, but do NOT install it yet. Then disconnect your internet connection (this is to keep you secure). Then go to add/remove programs and uninstall Norton Internet Security, piece by piece (there are several Norton items listed, you will have to uninstall one at a time). Sounds like the person is doing it from your own home. You have a few post asking the same thing there is a disk you can run and delete all other users and set a password up on your pc to stop anyone else using it. This has nothing to do with anyone changing anything remotely. A friend is messing you around and changed the password hint to freak you out.

While the computer is booting up you rapidly tap F8 before windows loads and pick Safe Mode then u can log in as administrator and change the password in the control panel and delete all other users.
