I keep trying to download new antivirus software to my laptop. I have tried a few programs - AGV etc but after downloading the laptop runs slow as hell - starting up and trying to get onto the internet. What should I do???

Uninstall them all and just run 1 anti-virus suite that protects against all malware types.

Well start defrag disc clean up go to run type prefetch and delete everything in the folder
What is the size of your Ram and how many process are you running, and see what is sarting up when you turn on the computer.
You can control what starts up by pressing the start button and go to run and type Msconfig press ok go to the start up (do not mess with the services tab) and you can chose what to start up and what you dont want to start.
restart the computer and see if that helps a bit.
I am assuming that you have low memory on the lap top
If your running vista with only 512 then your system will seem slow.

you can use a tool as well that will help it the advance windows care its free i use it and had no problems
