254MB of ram so why only 240 on system info?

I bought a lap top just to go on to the Internet and it had 254mb of RAM that i wanted to run antivirus software but when i try and download it comes up need 254mb to download. I went to system info and it is only showing 240mb.

Can any one tell me why and if i can change it and how.

I take it's used for some thing.

254MB of ram so why only 240 on system info?virus removal

16 mb of ram is reserved for video memory.

change your bios settings.

254MB of ram so why only 240 on system info?anti virus protection

ram is not the same as disk space, it apparently needs that much disk space not ram
the bios uses some before you
windows has to set aside a certain amount of memory so it can run their new and old operations. it doesnt matter what the software says that just what they advise to run their program fast. but 256 is pretty slow you should have at least 1 gb. and if you dont like not having that much memory buy a mac they dont require extra space.
